What makes KeepCup Helix travel bottles sustainable?

Helix is designed to do more with less: fewer materials, higher-quality recycled steel, and a design built for disassembly and reuse.

  • Shared modular base: Helix and Helix Light use the same base as our Commuter range, with interchangeable lids for different drinks. One base covers multiple uses, so fewer parts are manufactured overall.
  • 90% recycled stainless steel: Lead-free steel, independently tested to food safety standards.
  • Electropolished, not coated: No ceramic coating means no flavour taint and one less manufacturing step, lowering embodied energy compared to coated alternatives.
  • Single-material, separable parts: Components separate at end of life, making the bottle easier to recycle than products with bonded or mixed materials.

Across the range: modular parts you can replace individually, single-material components that separate at end of life, independent food-safety testing, 100% recycled paperboard packaging, and made by a certified B Corp that gives 1% of global revenue to environmental causes.

Can I customise my KeepCup water bottle?

Yes. With Design Your Own, you choose the cup size, band, lid colour and plugs — so the bottle arrives looking like yours rather than ours.

Or pick from the ready-made range: single-colour bottles, or dual-tone finishes if you’d rather it stood out.

The same customisation runs across the range, so you can match a bottle to a reusable cup, cold cup or matcha cup if you want the set to line up.

Why does the Helix drink bottle split in the middle?

The dual-opening water bottle solves a few problems. The wide mouth of the water bottle allows you to fit your ice, fruit and other treats. The main advantage is that your bottle can be easily and thoroughly cleaned in the dishwasher - no need for a water bottle brush. Of course, the bottle also converts from a bottle to a Travel Mug which is super when you want to travel light on the move!

How do I clean my KeepCup Helix water bottle?

Cleaning your stainless steel water bottle has never been easier! Thanks to the dual-opening design, simply unscrew it in the middle and place it in the dishwasher. No bottle brush needed!

We can't promise the bottle won't need a scrub, but if you regularly clean the water bottle parts separately in the dishwasher, it's unlikely. For best results remove the gaskets from time to time.

A note of caution if you like your steel water bottle pristine, we recommend handwashing it to preserve the surface finish. The water bottle lid can be disassembled into four parts for longevity and easy cleaning. For full drink bottle cleaning instructions, visit our care page.

Is the KeepCup Helix Bottle insulated?

Partly. The base Travel Mug cup part is vacuum insulated. The water bottle lid is clear single-wall premium clear plastic or double-wall stainless steel. Vacuum sealing provides increased thermal insulation when compared to double-wall construction, as it removes the air between the walls, creating a vacuum that slows down temperature transfer. Because our water bottle lid is open-ended, it cannot be vacuum-sealed.

Can I take my KeepCup water bottle or travel mug on a plane?

As a rule of thumb, no liquid passes through airport security. Go through with your Ora Bottle or Commuter Travel Mug empty, then fill up once you’re airside. Refill points are usually just past the scanners, sometimes disguised as a drinking fountain having an identity crisis.

Buying a tea or coffee onboard or airside? Hand over the cup and keep the lid.

One more thing before you screw the lid on tight and forget about it: cabin pressure. Cruising altitude runs lower pressure than sea level, so a sealed bottle full of air expands to match it. Loosen the lid before takeoff and you won’t be met with a slow hiss and a brief spurt of liquid.

Empty through security. Full once you’re through. Loose lid in the air. That’s the whole trick.

Why does cabin air dehydrate you so quickly?

Recycled air at cruising altitude sits well below the humidity you’re used to on the ground, closer to desert air than a normal room. Your body notices before your brain does.

Filling a bottle before boarding beats a dehydration headache over the Pacific, and means you’re not waiting on the drinks trolley for 200ml at a time.

The Ora Bottle keeps water cold for up to 24 hours, so a bottle filled airside is still cold when you land.

Why did water shoot out of my bottle straw mid-flight?

Cabin pressure drops as you climb, the air inside your bottle expands, and it pushes water up and out through the spout. Cabin pressure and straws don’t get along.

Not a design fault. Physics, doing what physics does at altitude.

The Ora Bottle’s stainless steel straw is removable, so you can take it out for the flight and put it back once you’ve landed.

Which KeepCup Ora Bottle size fits an aeroplane seatback pocket?

The 700ml Ora Bottle slides into most seatback pockets without a fight. The 950ml is more carry-on than seatback. It will fit in a bag or a cup holder, but expect a squeeze in the pocket.

700ml — base diameter 76mm, height 257mm. 950ml — base diameter 81mm, height 284mm.

The 700ml also fits standard car cup holders, so it’s the easier size if you’re moving between car, plane and desk.

How do I stop my water bottle leaking on a plane?

Pull the stainless steel straw out before takeoff and drink from the lid like a normal cup for the flight. Straw back in once you’ve landed.

Don’t seal the lid fully at altitude. Leave it loose so expanding air can escape rather than forcing water out. Ninety seconds of your life, one dry lap tray.

The straw and silicone flow adjuster both lift out without tools, so there’s nothing to dismantle. Keep them in the seat pocket or a side pocket of your bag, and rinse the straw when you land.
